Between a Rock and a Hard Place

I feel stifled lately. I don't know what to do now that my book is completed. Is it kind of a let down? What do you think. Also, I can't get my synopsis to work. If it doesn't thrill me, how much more will it not thrill an agent.

I'm having doubts. Is my book good enough? Will I handle rejection well? Actually, on that subject, rejection, I wouldn't mind getting a rejection notice. At least I will have gotten that far.

Where do I go to find an agent? Does anyone know? Should I self publish? If I do that, then I can put this book to bed and concentrate on the next one. Such a quandary I'm in. Any suggestions?

  1. I think we've all been there. Finishing up a book is a bitter-sweet thing, and writing a synopsis, don't even get me started on how difficult that is. Best of luck as you move forward!

  2. Sometimes I think writing the query letter and synopsis is more difficult than writing the whole book! :-)

    Good luck.

  4. Ohh, this all sounds natural to me. Take a deep breath, and keep plugging away.

I think part of us feels the job is done when the book is done... and then reality hits and we remember there's so much more yet to do. Pace yourself, peptalk yourself, and keep at it. Best!

  5. I would search for an agent but continue writing. Never stop writing no matter what you choose. You might find an agent who wants to see more than one piece! You have to have to create options in order to have options. :D

  6. Move onto another project. It will clear your mind. Take a break and maybe in a couple weeks or a month you can refocus. As to search for an agent, go to Writer's Market.com. It's only like $6.00 a month and you have complete access to agent listings, advice, etc. One piece of advice I can give you is to RESEARCH your agents. Each and every one of them. Make sure your query is EXACTLY like they ask for in their submission guidelines and you'll do just fine. Good luck! I'm glad I found your blog :)
